Piebald Doe 5-13-12
Old Town residents may be use to seeing this uniquely marked doe hanging around the edge of town, but she caught my attention.
Bull Moose 5-13-12
I was saying I hadn't seen any atlers yet on any of the moose I've been seeing lately. Closer examination of this photo reveals I spoke to soon.
(Sorry the picture isn't better) During peak growth, antlers may grow three-quarters of an inch in a single day. During summer bulls spend about 25% of their energy growing antlers.
A Record Day for Sighting Game 5-6-12
Took Monday off and went "Down East" for a day of coyote hunting/wildlife photography. Saw a record total of seven moose and eleven bears no coyotes.
This little guy and his two siblings headed up a tree when I drove by. Momma was back in the woods about 50 yards and didn't seem to have a problem with me getting some pics, but I tried to not over stay my welcome.
I saw four two year olds together first, one could have been the sow if after a winter of nursing these three left her not much bigger them themselves. They didn't stick around long, although one went up a tree for a couple minutes, then thought better of it and came down. To quick for pics! I saw one foraging along the road side, but he saw me before I could get the camera focused. The other two I saw from my perch on the powerline. One was a hundred yards in one direction the other was 300 yards in the other. I also saw two of the moose from the powerline. When I went back to my truck to leave in the evening there were two other moose watching me from about forty yards.
Fishing Travel Pond 5-6-12
Stephen and I went bass fishing on Travel Pond here in Jefferson. I caught a pickerel but Stephen caught these two really nice bass. One was 18" and the other 17" about 3 1/2 lbs.
Coyote Hunting 4-7-12
Stephen and I got "downeast" for a little coyote hunting. Didn't see any coyotes but saw four moose and a number of partridge. The previous weekend I was in the same area. There was a little snow from four days earlier with coyote tracks, so they're around. The snow was gone along with most fresh signs, but there were old tracks and scat about every road we checked. One of these times we'll have some luck and get some good footage.
Coyote Hunting 1-26-12
Chilly day for coyote hunting but I made a couple sets. One area is where I had seen a coyote a couple times when driving by. It's off the end of a pond with a mix of woods and fields. The other area was overlooking another small pond. No luck....
Togue caught on Swan Lake 1-23-12
Getting better. Here's a 5 lb 25" Togue caught with a dead shinner lying on bottom in about seven feet of water.
Togue caught on Swan Lake 1-17-12
Had some luck today on Swan Lake. Pulled this nice 22" Togue through the ice today at 10:30 a.m. The bait I had bought Saturday had all died, so I put one on the bottom hoping for a hungry togue to come by. And if my arm was longer I could have gotten a better picture!
Sunset on Swan Lake 1-14-12
First Time On The Ice 1-8-12
Got out to fish for a couple hours. I was jigging with a lure in about 3' of water (didn't have any live bait) and had a togue (lake trout) check it out but he wasn't interested.
Stephen's First Partridge 10-15-11
Went hunting with Ed Crosby and Shelly Walles of Katahdin Mountain Lodge and Guide Service. Stephen got his first partridge with his new Mossburg 20 ga.
